Training & Capacity Building

We provide training and support in a number of areas, including property development, housing (including affordable housing), and development viability. We undertake team building and stakeholder group sessions, and we have delivered ‘involvement with development’ sessions for residents of affordable housing schemes.

For local authorities, we provide targeted training for officers and members, and other stakeholders, on development and viability issues.

For Registered Social Landlords, we offer targeted training for staff, committee members and residents. 

For developers and housebuilders, we offer training and support relating to land, development and site viability issues.

We facilitate strategic planning and team building events for multi-organisational working structures, such as ‘housing development partnerships’ related a particular local authority area or areas. 

We have devised and presented courses on development, affordable housing and viability to county-wide groups of senior local authority officers. 

We have a track record of presenting on affordable housing, development and viability, at conferences and other events, at a national, regional and local level. 

Examples of work undertaken

• Delivering regular briefing seminars to clients and contacts, concerning the nature and implications of the latest viability guidance and good practice.
• A commission from the Devon Strategic Housing Group to prepare and deliver an ‘Affordable Housing & Development Viability Masterclass’ course (over some 8 weeks) for a group of senior housing and planning officers from local authorities across Devon. This received a Commendation within the Royal Town Planning (RTPI) South West Awards.
• Researching and delivering a two-day seminar on development vability for the Devon Strategic Housing Group, attended by senior housing and planning officers from across Devon).
• Preparation and Delivery of a strategic housing event for the Torbay Housing Development Partnership.
• Preparation and delivery of a development viability seminar for Dartmoor National Park Authority housing and planning officers.
• Preparation and delivery of an “Awayday” for the Plymouth Housing Development Partnership, on behalf of Plymouth City Council.
• Instructed by London-based ‘Professional Solutions – Learning and Development’ to present at a number of conferences across the country, on affordable housing, development and viability issues.
• Preparation and delivery of a conference at the Poundbury development, on “pepperpotting”, mixed tenure issues and the outcomes of financial modelling for various low-cost home ownership scenarios, undertaken for the Guinness Trust and Duchy of Cornwall.
• Affordable housing & viability training, for councillors and officers at Herefordshire Council.
• Devising and delivering an ‘Introduction to Development’ conference for local authorities and Registered Housing Providers, for South West Training and Conference Services.
• Devising and delivering housing development training for Investment Officers at Homes England (formerly the Homes and Communities Agency).
